Althoughthe panes were invented in the 1930s, it took a number of years for them to be taken in by builders and window makers all over the world. This was due to the many different policies that govern various manufacturing companies in the world. However, it fast became popular thereafter.

Today, many manufacturers are trying as hard as they can to improve the insulation qualities of the glazed panes. They try to rise what is called the thermal resistance that is, R-value. This value is directly proportional to the effectiveness of heat resistance of the glass thus the need to raise it.

Materials used in the making of these panes are mostly poor conductors of heat. PVC and wood are some of the best materials recommended by most builders of the other parts of a glazed window unit.
